Today's Flowers - My Inspirations

The following flowers are my entries for Today's Flowers and my inspiration to draw, utilizing colored pencils. Orchids love humidity so the only place I can think of is to put them by my kitchen sink. I love orchids because their blooms last for months.

Once in a while in the summer, I take them outside for much needed sunshine.

Painting is one of my hobbies, and I used to play with oil as medium until I stumbled/discovered colored pencils. They are so easy to set up, no messy brushes to clean up and it takes so little space that I can practically set up at one corner of the sofa using coffee table for my paraphernalia. ;) Pictured below is one of my very first attempts using colored pencil. As you can see, it is done by a novice, lacks dimensionality and definitely lacking the play of light... arrgghh, so inexperienced! lol

... picture of a real Iris from my garden.

... my drawing, please note, the photo above was not my model.

... my rootbeer Iris.

... another attempt to capture the beauty of an Iris.

I am quite new to colored pencils and can't wait until I am able to produce quality work to show you, one that is bursting with colors. Right now I am still on my journey in learning building realistic hues, light and textures, and various colored pencil techniques ... so be kind, will you? lol

Amazing pencil art! You might not think it is perfect, but, it is certainly beautiful. I grow orchids in my kitchen too...12 of them. I love them! I have a few with new buds coming out now. They will miss Christmas this year, though. You have a beautiful post!

I could never draw let alone paint. But am very proud of my children because they do!

You are doing well with your artwork Nance. Practice makes perfect and you have the gift.

Also, I don't think I have seen a rootbeer iris before. I love that colour. Not boring.

Thanks for the visit. Long time no commenting on my part. My mood is pretty unpredictable.

Others thought that perhaps I am neglecting them.

Wow Nance, you are so creative. From someone who cannot DRAW anything--your creations are wonderful. I love orchids --but have never grown them.. I have a girlfriend whose mother used to grow them. They always smelled so good.

I do grow Iris--and have both of the ones you showed in your photos.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Hugs,
Betsy

Nance, I love your colored pencil drawings. Last Winter I tried that with my blooming orchid as a model. It took me 4 hours to finished it and I don't think it's as good as yours. I did better when I was a kid. May be because I draw more often then. I'm glad to see that the plants I gave you are happy where they are now. That's why I asked you first because I know you would take care of them.
